I have just published a new sweater that is top down construction worked in the round with a touch hazy ruffles to turn it into a dressier affair with just the right touch of femininity. It is very easy to custom fit it because it can be tried on at any time by slipping the stitches onto a piece of waste yarn with a tapestry needle. This pictorial gives detailed instructions for the collar.
Thread a tapestry needle with the long tail left from the bind off and sew loose basting stitches for 2 inches along the outer edge of the collar.
Then turn toward the sweater and baste toward the attached edge of the ruffle.
Turn back around and baste back to the outer edge of the ruffle. Pull the yarn to gather the ruffle, it will fold up toward the cast edge of the sweater. Be careful not to pull too hard or else the sweater will gather.
Holding the gathers in place, make a couple of whip stitches into the cast on edge of the sweater to secure the outer edge of the gathered collar.
Repeat this sequence all around the ruffle edge as shown in the drawing. Watch as you proceed around the collar that the ruffle is gathered evenly around the top of the sweater
Now you have a wonderful sweater with a really cool collar. Just the right amount of decoration without being over the top.
