Poppy Dress

This is my design for a sweet little baby dress. I was browsing though a stitch dictionary and happened upon the popcorn stitch. I thought the stitch would be perfect for a baby dress and designed the Poppy dress around it. The dress is constructed from the top down with shoulder shaping by short rows and set in sleeves. There is a slit in the top back to aid in dressing, two purl rows to separate bodice from skirt. The sleeves and skirt are bound off with an I-cord and the neck line is finished off with reversed stockinette stitch. The bloomers are worked from the top down in the round. I put an elastic casing at the waistline and elastic cord through the I-cord on each leg to ensure a good fit. I picked Louisa Harding Fleuris for the yarn mostly because I liked the color. It is a soft natural shade great for a baby’s delicate coloring. It is also a good non-wool alternative for baby knitting. I love the way it all turned out. The color and shape of the dress with the puffed sleeves and gathered skirt give it an heirloom feel while the popcorns give it fun modern flare.                                               $8.00
